The proposed acquisition combines PET manufacturing capacity and diagnostic rights; its real strategic test is whether time-critical delivery becomes a reusable moat.
On October 5, GE HealthCare announced a definitive agreement to acquire SOFIE Biosciences for $945 million in cash. The deal has not closed. GE expects completion in the first half of 2027, subject to conditions including regulatory approvals. The target brings 15 U.S. contract-manufacturing sites, 21 cyclotrons, a theranostics-focused CDMO facility, and U.S. rights to the Phase III FAPI-74 diagnostic PET tracer. [GE HealthCare release]
The capital-markets question is not simply what a new radiotracer is worth. It is what a buyer should pay for the ability to manufacture and deliver short-lived tracers close enough to patients, reliably enough, to turn a promising molecule into an accessible product. Fluorine-18 PET products have a roughly 110-minute half-life. Geography and scheduling therefore become commercial variables, not merely back-office logistics. [GE HealthCare release]
